What Does a Cellist Actually Do?
A cellist will perform instrumental pieces which can range from classical masterpieces to modern hits. Many have been classically trained and spent many years playing this beautiful instrument. No matter what genre of music they play, you can be sure that a cellist will offer a performance that is suited to your next event.
For example one of our latest members, Elena Bosworth, performs both traditional, classical styles and can also combine playing the cello in a variety of genres and techniques using either acoustic or electronic cellos with the accompaniment of a band/ backing tracks or just solo.

Elena’s shows are “The Evolution of the Cello” consisting of classical music through to contemporary pop music of today with everything in between and “The Life of a Cellist” a funny and inspiring tale of growing up a musician, with classical, Irish, Pop and rock-n-roll music.
How Long will a Cellist Perform For?
Each individual cellist will have their own repertoires and performance lengths, but if you need them to play for a specific length of time, always check with them before booking. Most cellists can happily play for a couple of hours with a few breaks in-between.
How Much does a Cellist Cost?
Again, each instrumentalist will have their own costs and this may vary greatly depending on many factors, such as the amount of experience they have, the type of event you are hosting and their location.
What Should I Ask a Cellist?
Hiring a cellist is quite straight-forward but we have come up with a number of questions that you might want to use as a checklist before booking. Remember these are just suggestions, so if there is something else you wish to know, simply ask your chosen performer.
- Are you available to play on the date of my event?
- How long will you perform for?
- What songs are you able to play?
- Can you learn a specific song if it is not in your repertoire?
- Do you have public liability insurance?
- How much space will you need for your set-up?
- How much do you charge and how much deposit do you need to secure my date?
How Do I Choose a Cellist?
Choosing a cellist is generally down to their level of experience and performance. Using our website you can view all of the available acts listed with us before reading more about their experiences. Many performers also provide audio or video samples of their performances which is a very useful tool to see if they will work with your event.
