Biography

Aubrey Lodewyk, a South African baritone of versatile vocal ability and commanding stage presence hails from South Africa. His talent and love for music has been nurtured and crafted at some of the country's most prestigious institutions after switching from the tenor voice. Operatic roles he has performed to date are Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte by Mozart, Albert in Werther by Massenet, Germano in La Scala di seta by Rossini, Belcore in L'elisir d'amore by Donizetti, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte by Mozart, Valentine in Faust by Gounod and Danilo in operetta The Merry Widow are some of the rol ... es he has performed in South Africa. He made his debut in the role of Silvio at the New Isaeli Opera in 2011.
He is also regular lieder performer and Oratorio and light classical music.
Aubrey has recently performed at the RMB Startlight Classics in Johannesburg.

Aubrey Lodewyk, hails from Rustenburg where his musical journey began in church at a young age. His talent has been crafted and groomed at some of South Africa’s most prestigious institutions. After completing his post-graduate studies in 2007 and a two-year young artist program at Cape Town Opera, he started his professional career by touring extensively with the company, performing several operatic roles.
He made his debut at the Israeli Opera in 2011 in the role of Silvio in I Pagliacci. 2011 also saw him creating and bringing to life the role of Mandela in Mandela Trilogy, which was per ... formed around South Africa, UK and made its European debut. His performance in this role was nominated for best performance in a musical at the Naledi Awards in 2011 and another nomination at the prestigious Fluer de cap awards for best performance in an Opera in 2019.
His vocal abilities allow him to perform a wide range of classical music ranging from Lieder, Opera, and Oratorio. Operatic roles he has performed so far are, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Germano in La scala di seta, Germon in La Traviata and Valentine in Faust Marcello in La Boheme and Gasparo in Rita. He has performed with the Symphony choir of Johannesburg a number of oratorios such as Handel’s Messiah, St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion, Brahms Requiem and Rossini Stabat Mater.
Aubrey is currently studying towards a Masters degree in music performance and is also a part time voice lecturer at the University of Pretoria School of the Arts.
