Professional performer in aerials, partner acrobatics, dance, pole-dancing, and contortion!
To assist you in booking British Columbian Based Aerialist, Acro Mel for your upcoming event, we recently had a Q&A session with them!
Q. How long have you been in the entertainment industry?
A. I have been on stage since I was 7, performing acting, dancing, gymnastics, and more! I started performing professionally in 2007 in dance, and then aerials and pole dance in 2012. Since then I have attended various circus and performing arts schools around the world, increasing my repertoire to all areas of aerials and dance as well as contortion, acrobatics, partner acrobatics, adagio, and doubles aerials. Performing is in my blood and the entertainment life is my world!
Q. Is there audience interaction in your act? A. There can be! Depending on the event and the act, such as comedy pieces, there can inclusion of the audience. For other pieces, there may be a sense of comradery, and for corporate and classic events I may maintain more of a professional demeanor.
Q. What is one of the highlights of your show? A. As an advanced performer and choreographer, my shows can offer more dynamic work that most aerial performances, and really create that “wow” factor for audiences to appreciate. Because I have been on stage and performing for most of my life, I am comfortable and happy on stage, and this really comes out for the audience to feel.
Q. Whereabouts have you played in the country/world?
A. I have performed all over the world in almost every continent! Most notably, Canada, the USA, UK, Ireland, Holland, Qatar, and China!
Q. What do you personally enjoy most about performing? A. What I most enjoy about performing is the feeling of freedom I get when I get to be completely immersed in a character or performance. I especially love those moments that I have choreographed a dynamic drop in time with the music and I can feel the audience’s reaction and know that their hearts are beating in time with mine. A mark of a great performance is not whether it was liked or not, but whether it will be remembered in the years to come because it made the audience feel something. And I love knowing that I have made an impact somewhere and somehow.
Q. What’s the biggest crowd you performed to so far? A. I have performed for crowds of all sizes, although the biggest crowd was in the thousands for a New Years Eve event in Whistler, Canada.
Q. What questions would you like to ask your booker? A. Information I generally need from the booker include: 1. what type of performance (aerial, adagio, contortion, pole, etc.) and what type of show (e.g. corporate, theatrical, burlesque, etc.); 2. what type of venue, including indoor/outdoor, flooring for dance and pole, height and rigging for aerials, etc.; 3. dates and time for performing; 4. Am I able to train in the venue beforehand? 5. Any special requests or things I should be aware of? (e.g. high security at the venue, ability to get stage equipment in and out, etc.)
Q. Do you have any video links on your Profile for a booker to view your act? A. Yes, on my website.
Q. Can you tailor your act to the booker’s requirements?
A. Yes, although I do come with pre choreographed acts, I specialize in tailoring acts to the needs of the booker or organization. This can include “feel”, music, costume, and style. It is recommend for special bookings like this that the booker contacts me as far in advanced as possible.
Q. Do you require any special arrangements in order to perform? A. Yes! For aerial silks, rope, and trapeze, I need a minimum of 5.5 meters, and for aerial hoop, a minimum of 3 meters.
Q. What sets your act apart from your competition? A. My act is set apart from other by my large repertoire of performances! Including acro, partner acro and adagio, aerial (rope, silks, hoop, trapeze), doubles aerials, contortion, dance (jazz, hip hop, contemporary, modern), pole dance, and more! All act that I choose to perform are professional and performance ready! I am also a motivated and enthusiastic performer with client satisfaction as my top priority!
Q. Are there any other services you provide, such as MC’ing??
A. Other services such as MC’ing, choreographing, flash mobbing, wedding dances, and more may be available upon request! I also have experience in theatre and film in both acting and directing!
