Biography

The band:
Maria Sotiropoulou (Singer)
Maria Sotiropoulou was born in Athens, Greece. She has studied classical ballet from 8 until 15 years old. In her twenties, she has also studied modern latin and smooth dances.
At her early twenties, she has studied modern singing at National Greek Conservatory for 3 years. Since 2000, she has been a singer at greek music stages in Athens and in the suburbs. Her repertoire includes English & American pop, rock, disco, funk, blues, rock n’ roll, country, latin and jazz songs, as well as folk greek music, for session singing in music bands.
... At the age of 26, Maria became a dance teacher for Galena Velikova’s dance studios and she is still working in dance schools as a teacher and choreographer. She possess the 2 diplomas of IDTA (Great Britain) International style Latin, licensed abroad. She undertakes candidates’ exam preparation and choreography preparations for Diploma exams (first prof certificate-Associate) in Latin dances. Maria was awarded many Pan-Hellenic championship distinctions in five different latin dance categories, in the period of 2000-2006. She has also been the Latin Hellenic champion with the team of Latin formation for 2004 (Galena’s dance studios).
She has been the Lead vocalist at “CONTRAST” cover band for the past 8 years. She also participates in various American southern rock music bands (Nostos the Band) as a cession vocalist. She has worked as a singer in commercial spots for TV and radio stations (Oxyzed co). She has performed as a singer in musical projects for kids learning English (GRIVAS) and Greek language.
She has studied computer operation skills, and worked as an office employee (1994-2000).
Alexandros Stavrakas Biography (Bass player / Leader) stavrakas_a@yahoo.gr
Alexandros Stavrakas was born in Athens - Greece, in 1973. His music studies began at the age of 5.  Having got his diploma in piano studies and music theory (Degree in Fugue), he also studied electric bass, and now holds a Grade 7 in Music Performance from RGT.  He has taught piano and electric bass at the Music School of Pallini, Alimos and Athens, as well as various music conservatories (eg. Halandri Modern Music School). 
His repertoire has a wide range of music genres. Having started with classical training, he has also played pop, rock, hard rock & metal, both greek and foreign music.
He has been working as a professional musician (bassist) since 1989. During his career he has performed with a variety of bands and artists in renowned music stages all over Athens. Furthermore, he has toured most parts of Greece, as well as in foreign countries (eg. Jazz Cafe - London UK, headline in Jazz festival 2016 - FYROM)  and has many appearances on greek television.  Alexandros, also works as a session bass player for studio recordings.
Nowadays, you can find him playing bass for Maidenance (Iron Maiden tribute band), Fortress Under Siege, Mindcrime Empire (a Queensryche tribute act), more tribute acts including Pavlos Sidiropoulos, Gary Moore and others. He already has a succesful contract with MSC as a member of Groove Island party band and now with his new band Ocean Beat, aims even higher.
He is married and has one beautiful son.
Panos Striglis Biography (Guitar player / Vocals)
Born in Athens on 18th October of 1976 and lives in Athens, Greece.
Already a devoted musician - guitar player - singer - songwriter by his twenties, he has been entertaining audiences ever since, as a member of many popular groups in a wide variety of music styles ranging from ethnic, folk, Latin, disco, R&B, pop – rock, jazz.
Since 2011, he has been the guitarist & backing vocalist of the Pop – Rock, Disco cover band “CONTRAST”, as well as of the jazz rock, ethnic band “NAGARE”, which just released their first self-titled international album, with original material and jazz standards.
He studied Law and Political Science at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. A fluent user of the English language, as he was teaching at second-grade language schools for 3 years, at First Certificate and Proficiency level.
George Papageorgiou Biography (Keyboard player / Vocals)
George Papageorgiou was born in Grevena - Greece, in 1978. He started taking piano and Organ lessons at the age of 12.  Having an “I want to study what I want to play” attitude, he studied classical music theory, classical guitar and the saxophone while in school.
He moved to Athens as a post-graduate student and he has been living there ever since. In Athens, he studied jazz piano for another four years under jazz masters such as G. Katsanos, G. Kontrafouris and S. Amiri, accompanied by two years of Electronic music production studies, as well as Vocal studies.
His repertoire has a wide range of music genres. Having started with classical training, he has also played pop, rock, hard rock & metal, both greek and foreign music.
He has been working as a professional musician (keyboard player and singer) since 1996. During his career he has performed with a variety of bands and artists in renowned music stages all over Athens, most notably his 8-year tenure as a resident keyboardist/vocalist in the house-bands of the two most renowned pop-rock stages in Athens during the late ‘90ies-mid ‘00s, “Arhitektoniki” (4 years) and “Stavros tou Notou” (4 years). Furthermore, he has toured most parts of Greece.  George also works as a session keyboard player for studio recordings.
Nowadays, you can find him playing the Keytar for Contrast (80’s pop/rock cover band), Evil Monkey (‘90s rock/metal cover band) and his own rock group, Phosforos.
He speaks Greek, English, Italian, French and German, he has a post-graduate degree in Statistics and Insurance Science and an Msc in Banking and Finance. He is married and has two beautiful daughters.
Yannis Barbatis Biography (Drums)
He was born in Athens in 1971 and has been actively involved in music since 1987, when he started as a self-taught drummer. Between 1993 and 1995 he studied drums and music theory in the “FILIPPOS NAKAS” music school.
In 1988 he was a founding member of the greek pop/rock group “JOKER”, with discography in the greek market and was a member until 2013.
From 2012 until today he plays with the Pop,Rock & Disco cover band “CONTRAST” as drummer and backing vocalist. He has played in hundreds of live venues in Athens and all over Greece. On many occasions he has also played live on greek television and in various greek artists video clips. He has also worked many seasons in various music stages in Athens (house bands).
At the same time he has worked as a audiovisual and lighting engineer at international and local events and concerts.
He is married and has one 8 year-old son.
