Bio for Griset Damas-Roche
Born in Havana, Griset has studied ballet from a very young age in Cuba at the "Instituto Superior de Arte" and then entered the "Spanish Ballet of Havana" where she performed for five years with this world-renowned company.
  In 1998 she moved to Bogotá, Colombia and began creating and teaching her own choreographies.  During this time she opened the doors to flamenco dance to more than 3,500 students!. For 17 years she successfully directed her own dance company, "Ballet Caña Flamenca". Additionally, Griset created and opened her own dance school. She ... also continued her flamenco dance career as a soloist, collaborating with many flamenco companies throughout Colombia.  At the same time, Griset had the privilege of dancing in the most important theaters in Colombia  and performed with the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra of Colombia.
  
 In  2014, Damas-Roche moved to Columbus, Ohio with her family. She began by teaching for the established “Flamenco del Corazón” school. Then, Griset made a step forward opening her own flamenco studio known as  “UWillDance” studio in Plain City, Ohio. The name itself conveys what Griset wants her students to believe YOU WILL DANCE!
  Griset was quickly embraced by the Columbus Arts Community and invited to join the city's promotion campaign “Columbus Makes Art”. The privilege of this recognition led her to perform with the “Columbus Symphony Orchestra,” the “Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra,” as well as the “Symphony Orchestra of Princeton". For the past 5 years, Griset has been the guest flamenco instructor in Columbus for BalletMet’s Intensive Summer Program, as well as many other dance schools in central Ohio such as New Albany Ballet and Dublin Dance Center among others. In 2019 she was a guest artist at TedXColumbus and has brought her art to spaces as the Columbus Museum of Art. Griset is also very proud to lead the “Compañía Flamenca of Columbus,” which encompasses renowned and expert musicians from Ohio and Spain.
  Griset Damas-Roche is passionate about dance and the arts!  The pandemic has not deterred her study of flamenco. She continues to learn from the most important flamenco artists because she feels than Flamenco will always be a huge passion in her heart.
