Blending physicality and killer material, Jamie takes us on a journey that will leave you with aching sides and also an aching heart as he clutches the black humour from life's continual jabs. He strikes a chord with audiences thanks to his timing, extremely strong material and a willingness to laugh at himself as well as others. Audience interaction is thrown in - but it's restrained, amusing and makes Jamie seem highly approachable both on and off the stage. Jamie’s shows are always something truly special.
Jamie Bowen is an award winning comedian, writer and actor from New Zealand. Over a career that started when he was 18 and now spans almost two decades, Jamie has established himself as one of New Zealand’s most accomplished talents.
As a stand-up, Jamie has toured the world as a host, feature and headliner. His shows are a mix of comedy and playful philosophy, and he brings a level of openness and relatability to material that deals with the big questions in life, leaving an audience feeling like they’ve truly seen something special. He’s performed all over the UK, Europe and Asia, ... as well as having toured New Zealand and Australia extensively. He’s also the opening act for Rhys Darby on his national and international tours. He’s written and performed over a dozen live solo shows, over which time Jamie’s stand-up has been nominated for every major award in New Zealand, and winning several of them, making him one of the country’s most sort-after comedians.
His television career also began young when he was selected to be the host of Alt, a weekly specialist music show run on M2, music television. From here he moved into comedy, creating, writing and starring in a sketch-show pilot for TVNZ that aired but wasn’t picked up for series. He was the creator, writer and core cast member of the TV show A Night at The Classic, for which he received a nomination in the New Zealand Film and Television Awards ‘Best Comedy Series’ category. He was one of the writers of the prime-time sitcom Sunny Skies, receiving a nomination from the New Zealand Screen Writers Guild Awards for Best Comedy Episode. Jamie joined the team of the award-winning topical news panel show 7 Days as a writer and audience warm-up, with several appearances on the panel, as well as a head-writing credits for a number of episodes over the course of the show’s 7 year history.
Jamie’s performance range is vast, and his ability to play a wide range of characters has seen him appear in numerous TV shows in New Zealand as both an actor and as a comedian. He is now based in Los Angeles, having being cast as a lead in a pilot for a major US TV network and his next project is the international release of his first one hour special, titled Jamie Bowen, Not So Special. It’s a raw, emotional and heartfelt piece of comedy that talks about the importance of laughter in the face of grief and heartache, and Jamie’s ability to be open and honest about his own struggles and stumbles in life makes this comedy for the soul.
He’s shown himself to be one of the most diverse, interesting and unique creative talents to come out of New Zealand, and after nearly 20 years in show business, he shows no sign of slowing down. Jamie is the real deal.
