Description

Saxophonist and Vocalist Miss Kitty performs jazz, vintage swing, blues, funk, soul, motown, reggae, and dance music. Her set can be adjusted according to musical requirements. Performing on tenor, alto and soprano saxophones, kitty is also an established jazz vocalist who has entertained crowds across the UK and internationally, working as a session musician and as a lead vocalist and saxophonist in various musical genres. Kitty's musical work has included P&O cruise lines, festival and corporate work including Shanghai Expo, Glastonbury, Dublin Fringe Festival, Brecon Jazz, Twinwood Vintage ... Festival and many many more.
Kitty performs in other musical genres including ska, dub, reggae, electronica, pop, rock, soul, gospel and more, and has frequent work as a saxophonist and backing vocalist for tribute acts and travelling bands. Her performance work has included backing the soul legend PP Arnold on board the cruise ship Ventura, backing UK's leading tribute artists performing as Amy Winehouse/Simply Red in Denmark, Spain and the Uk, and working in Doha, Qatar performing on sax with Spanish DJ's at Hotel W. Past gigs include a China tour with Ebony Bones, performances with Mad Professor, Dublin Fringe and Glastonbury performances with TrifleSky, plus several jazz and dance festival gigs with bands the Jiveoholics and Les Minouches Atomiques.
As well as performing, Kitty runs saxophone workshops for adults, these include sessions for beginners on how to play the sax and basic jazz and improvisation skills for those who have a basic knowledge of the instrument.

Several styles of music are available for Kitty's solo performance on vocals and saxophone. These include a Jazz and Swing repertoire, reggae and ska, pop and soul, funk, and smooth jazz. Also Kitty programs beats and works as a live DJ/sound mixer as she improvises on top of the beats she creates with saxophone and voice.

Biography

Kitty has worked for over 25 years as a performer with all styles of bands and projects. Beginning her career with a mix of gospel performances followed by a rhythm'n'blues three part harmony band The Blues Sisters, singing the top harmony and performing saxophone solos. Kitty composes songs and has released several albums of her own compilations as well as covers albums, from her work with acclaimed jazz guitarist Rob Haddon as Kitty's Duo, and Kitty's Trio released two albums of jazz and swing standards that were reworked into her own unique style.
In the early 2000's Kitty performed as Tri ... flesky - a dance/electronica project co-created with her brother Mark Q. Together they recorded three albums and performed at festivals around the UK, including Glastonbury 2003 and Dublin Fringe Festival in 2004. After a few years performing around Europe and the UK with successful jump jive band the Jiveoholics, Kitty began a jump jive group of her own - Kitty and the Purramours. Much of the music is written by Kitty, and she released the first Purramours album in 2014, titled 'Music Made For Dancing'. Kitty's last recording in 2015 for the 'Kitty Sings Billie' project, to celebrate the centenary of Billie Holiday.
Currently Kitty is writing and composing for a solo piano/voice album project which she plans to record by the end of the year.
