David Hughes Biography
David Hughes Was a Music Director for and Performed on Carnival Cruise Lines, he is also noted for sharing the stage with The Temptations (joining them to sing their chart topping hit song “My Girl”), The Four Tops, Mary Wilson (formerly of the Supremes), Martha Reeves, Sister Sledge, Bobby Rydell, John P. Kee, Trinitee 5:7, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Blue Gates of Harmony, The Metropolitan Male Ensemble of Philadelphia, (The late) Nicholas Brothers, (The late) Grover Washington Jr., Bill Jolly, Gerald Veasley, Warren Cooper, (Jazz Drummer/Percussionist) Webb T ... homas, Barbra Walker, Veronica Underwood, (Jazz Violinist) John Blake, Jr., and (The late Jazz Legend) Betty Carter, to name a few.
David Hughes landed the leading role in several Musical stage plays. He stared as “Tashi” in Hop Scotch, Frogs, Dogs, and Bobby Brown portraying the love interest of “Latonya” portrayed by Reagan Gomez-Preston (of theParent Hood aired on WB network) along side Robbie Pardlo (of the group City High ) at Freedom Theater. He starred as the lead role Alfred in the Main Stage Production of “Bobos”(Plays and Players Theater), He appeared as Mannes in Lysistrata with Broadway’s own Emmy and Tony award winning actress Cherry Jones (Prince Music Theater). David was musical director for the Musical “Summertime Cinema”, a musical stage play performed at the Franklin Elementary School for The Prince Music Theater. David was one of the original members of the Rainbow Company, which was founded by (The late) Ricardo Martin.
In Television, He appeared several times on the Al Albert’s Show Case which aired on (ABC Channel 6 ), “Fast Forward” with Lisa Thomas-Laury ( ABC Channel 6), Philadelphia Tribune with Trudy Haynes (Channel 6), Good News (sitcom UPN) where he had the opportunity to connect and collaborate with (The late) Ali Woodson (former lead singer of the Temptations) and (The late) Billy Preston (who collaborated with artist ranging from the Bruce Willis, B.B. King, the Beatles to the Red Hot Chili Peppers). David Hughes has been featured numerous times on the Jeffrey Hart Radio broadcast (WURD). He has recorded several original CD’s under his Record Label Power Records. His producer credits include, writing, directing, and producing “Indians and Africans” (an original Stage play Musical chronicling the interaction between Indigenous people of the Western Hemisphere and Africans from Antiquity to present day times) which debuted at the “View” and “Transfiguration” in Philadelphia. “Give It One More Try” (an original Stage Play collaboration with his Mother Delores Hughes) Performed in Philadelphia at Pentecostal Bridegroom Temple, and Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Also, he staged and produced the pre-show entertainment for the show “Spirit” ( A Native American production which aired on PBS and later performed on Lemmon Hill in Philadelphia, PA). In addition to that, he produced/recorded a collection of 5 original CD’s. His most recent CD’s were “Urban Indians Volume I & II”. David is an accomplished vocalist, actor, dancer, activist, pianist, organist, arranger, flutist, and percussionist playing over 30 different instruments.
David Hughes uses his various Creative gifts for the benefit of educating both young and old. He is currently teaching Music and Acting in various schools throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Presently, he is working on another CD to be added to his successful series of “Urban Indian” CD Collections, entitled “Losing My Balance: An Urban Indian Legend”. In addition to that, he travels the country giving lectures on past and current issues affecting Native American People. Also, he is working on a Cherokee/English Children’s CD, to be spoken and sung in his Native Cherokee Language. David Hughes attended Freedom Theater where he majored in acting. He graduated from the High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) of Philadelphia in 1997 and was awarded the “Outstanding Male Vocal Award.”His work has been has been featured in numerous local, national, and international News Papers and journals throughout the world. In 2001 he earned an Associates Degree in Education from the Community College of Philadelphia. Afterwards, he attended Temple University.
