There are few things more uplifting in life than seeing a dad and his teenage sons making music together and looking like they’re having the time of their lives.
At least that’s how it feels to watch a Janzen Boys show.
Experience
Moving back to Canada in 2012 after a childhood spent in Japan, then 12-year-old Simon and 9-year-old Mick wanted to try busking at the Forks. Response was strong and the Boys soon had invitations from festivals all over the country. In the following years they recorded their EP Roads and performed at festivals like Dauphin Country Fest, the Festival du Voyageur, the Fire and Water Festival, Trout Forest Music Festival, and the Manitoba Arts Network Emerging Artists series. In 2016, with the help of Winnipeg artists Begonia, Erin Propp, William Prince, and producer Murray Pulver they recorded
... their folk opera Blink’s Garden which took them to fringe festivals in Toronto, Edmonton, and Winnipeg.
Though Covid shut down opportunities for live performances, The Janzen Boys have been spending time in the studio with local producing duo Lloyd Peterson and Rusty Matyas, and are aiming to release a full-length album in 2023.
