Biography

Thomas James Smith started his career as a session guitarist supporting the likes of Rhys Lewis (Decca), NyOh, Sam Garrett, Michael Kiwanuka (Polydor), Grammy Award winner Lady Rizo and many more. Early in his career, he won the prestigious play OnBlackheath competition judged by Harvey Goldsmith (Live Aid), which saw his band share the spotlight with Massive Attack, Grace Jones & Frank Turner.
After being invited to perform at Elton John's Summer Ball as a solo performer, Thomas decided to pursue his solo act and landed agency contracts with the likes of Nova Music, Eight Ray Music, Talent ... banq and other private clients in and around the London area in the UK. In addition, he has been involved in international functions as a guitarist and backing vocalist. Thomas' clients have included The BBC, The Ned, Stella Artois & John Lewis. He has performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, Wilderness & Secret Garden Party.
Most recently, Thomas has tenured long term positions on the prestigious Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection as resident musician and Bandleader alike. Not only performing to discerning and notable clientele, but also holding the responsibility of a manager of a team of 7 musicians, the planning of their work and collaborating with multiple stakeholders to provide the highest quality musical product possible.
Thomas James Smith has had a long-term residency as a musician/tour guide/entertainer for The Music Boat, Camden. The Music Boat is an intimate inland canal cruise in the lively area of London. Through the years, Thomas has honed his skills at making the audience comfortable, entertaining them with humour and taking requests.
He includes the use of a loop pedal in his performances and the audience remark on his soulful warm voice and excellent guitar skills. The Music Boat is a seasonal job and often runs up to 12 hours a day in the summer, giving Thomas excellent stamina regarding multiple daily performances.
Thomas' education includes a bachelor's degree in music performance from LCCM and a master's degree from Tileyard Education. Most recently, Thomas has created a new project for his original songs, Tom Willow. His first single has been aired by BBC introducing. Read More
