Biography
As a child, Tyrone struggled a great deal in grade school due to his difficulty understanding words and reading books. He got into fights, constantly disrupted the class and spent a lot of time in the principal's office.
A Book Saves His Life,When he was 7 years old Tyrone's mother asked him, "What do you want to do with your life when you grow up?"
Tyrone replied, "I want to be like that man I saw on TV making a puppet talk.” At that moment, his parents decided to take him to the local library to search for a book on the art ventriloquism.
Tyrone's parents encouraged him to read the b
... ook Fun with Ventriloquism. They also helped him to appreciate the importance of never giving up.
An important lesson
Tyrone never gave up. He practiced and practiced, reading that book until he finally learned the art of ventriloquism. Not only did he acquire the skills to perform ventriloquism, he also came to appreciate how important it is to read books and pay attention in school. His teacher were so impressed with his new attitude towards reading, school and his ventriloquism skills, she arranged for him to perform in the School's library for all the classes.
A professional since 1998, Uncle Ty-Rone got his big break at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he learned how to attract and entertain large crowds.
Ever since, the Virginia native has been giving his show to children and adults at fairs, festivals, corporate events, cruise ships, educational venues, and opening concerts all across the country to well satisfied audiences.
He describes himself as “somebody who’s trying to do something positive for the communities.” His favorite part of performing is “making people laugh and forget their problems for a few minutes.” In Uncle Ty-Rone’s own words “I have a passion for families.”

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to share about our organization's experiences working with Ty-Rone Travis - Uncle Ty-Rone. Ty-Rone performed as part of our Winter Puppetfest last December, and he was a hit! Our annual event is geared towards family audiences and the children AND adults both had a blast. (Most notably, middle school age children - always a challenge to enter tain - had a great time.) Members of our Board of Directors have worked with him in the past, and he came to us highly recommended.
Ty-Rone is a talented performing artist whose dedication to his profe
... ssion is apparent. As a ventriloquist, he has worked to perfect his craft for decades with a fun cast of characters sharing the stage. As a comedian, he keeps his act clean and hilarious; he also adeptly cre ates layers of humor to appeal to both children and adults.
Most importantly, Ty-Rone really knows how to connect with an audience. Over the years, his act has evolved to include a personal narrative that people can easily relate to. In this narrative, he shares his own personal journey in becoming a ventriloquist. The kids - and the adults - love this. The story he shares is full of humor with such great timing and sur prising twists. He shares his experiences in school, especially with learning to read, with such candor and clarity. His act is engaging and enjoyable. Time just seems to stop, and the show is over before you realize the hour has passed.
I whole-heartedly recommend Ty-Rone.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am the Youth Services Librarian for Amherst County Public Library. I got in touch with Ty-Rone in March of this year wanting to schedule a program with him for my Summer Reading Program. He and I worked together trying to find a date that would work for both of us and we succeeded in doing that! He came and performed his show in June and it was very well attended at both libraries. I have only known Ty-Rone through email since March and then met him in June, but I was very impressed by him on all aspects of correspondence.
Ty-Rone has been a comedian for years. After talking with him about his past and where he would like to be one day, I know that he has a pure love of what he does. He likes to entertain. He likes to work with children and he likes to make them laugh. He enjoys what he does and it is very evident in the way he presents his programs. I learned that after years of using puppets that he purchased, Ty-Rone is beginning to make his own puppets—a process that takes a long time to do. He showed me pictures of the puppet that he is currently working on, his first, and I was very impressed by how life-like and animated the face already is!
Ty-Rone is a master at keeping his shows family friendly. There is comedy for all ages in his shows but without all the language and innuendos that most stand-up comics have. At the shows he put on at my libraries, a lot of children showed up with their moms or dads. I sat back and watched the reaction during the second show and noticed that parents were laughing a lot as well as children! He got children involved in the show by asking for volunteers. Ty-Rone is great at what he does. I was very impressed by his ambition when he was telling me of when he first began and I’m very impressed by his constant need to better himself and his program.
Ty-Rone knows comedy. He figures out what works and what does not work. He knows how to grab the attention of children and how to hold that attention. He also knows, when he is doing programs at libraries, that if children start move around more he needs to grab their attention. He does that very successfully. I was very impressed by his show and I look forward to having him come back next year. I highly recommend Ty-Rone for this position because he would be an asset to families everywhere looking for a good, clean family program to take their children to see and to enjoy themselves.
