Biography

Ashlei Peoples is a gifted and classically trained pianist who has been playing the piano for twenty years. Ashlei decided to attend Spelman College where she received a half-tuition scholarship called the Alberta King Memorial Scholarship Fund, funded by the sister of Martin Luther King Jr, Dr. Christine Farris.
While she was in college, she was the Student Director of the Spelman College Jazz Ensemble, pianist for the Spelman College Glee Club, Music teacher for the Atlanta In Home Music Teachers Company, as well as the Assistant Music Director for the Atlanta Music Festival Camp. She has p ... layed the piano with her band as the opening performance for Jean Carne, Michael Henderson, and the Dramatics. She has also played piano for Sunday Best Season 4 Finalist Mama Sue Roseberry and the Duke of Gospel Music, James Hall.
During her time at Spelman College, she frequently accompanied the vocal students on the piano for recitals, competitions, and auditions. She served as the pianist for the opera The Marriage of Figaro at Clark Atlanta University. She has also performed as a solo pianist for The Atlanta University Center Orchestra. She has been a participant in the All-Female Jazz Residency directed by jazz extraordinaire Geri Allen and she has been the opening performance for the Kenyatta Jazz Festival at Spelman College. Ashlei also served as a freelance church musician for several churches in the Atlanta, Georgia area and was the Children’s Choir pianist at Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site called Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Currently, Ashlei Peoples is an Elementary School Music Teacher at Jennie Dean Elementary School. She is also a piano accompanist at Howard University, Montgomery College. Ashlei plays for many parties, banquets, fashion events, and many other events and concerts in the DMV area. She has played for many parties and musicals in the DMV area such as "In the Heights" "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" "Matilda" "Lion King Jr" and many more. Ashlei has also played the piano for some notable gospel artists and the creator of the GPS (Global Positioning System), Gladys Mae West. Ashlei truly enjoys sharing her passion and love for music with others and teaching children the importance of versatility and embracing all different types of music genres.

Ashlei played for my daughter's recital at the Kennedy Center and did a fabulous job! She accompanied my daughter on a Violin Concerto that was given to her only three days before the concert. She recorded it so that I could hear her playing it and then played it perfectly at the concert for my daughter! Ashlei is an extremely talented and professional musician! We loved working with her and she has a beautiful smile!
