Biography

Charis Smith started playing Saxophone at the age of 7. Inspired by the likes of Charlie Parker and Louis Armstrong, she has always pursued her love of jazz, but has also been classically trained. She has been part of a variety of ensembles, toured around Europe, and played in many locations and festivals in the UK.
Charis studied Music, Worship & Theology at London School of Theology, where she explored the spiritual aspect of music and developed her unique sound.
Since then she has joined the South London Jazz Orchestra and performs solo gigs.
Charis has played alongside singer-son ... gwriters such as Chris Eaton, Geraldine Latty and Sam & Sara Hargreaves, and she has performed during intervals at 'An Evening with Aled Jones' in Fairfield Halls Croydon.
Charis is an excellent teacher, and leads music workshops and seminars to encourage musicians of all ages to work together in their respective bands/groups with confidence and respect for each other's music. She is friendly, approachable, generous with her time, and clearly displays her love of music in all aspects of her life.
