Ji-Young Jeon

Biography

Since her debut as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s opera Die Zauberfloete, dramatic coloratura soprano Ji Young Jeon has performed the role over 500 times. Critics and conductors alike have been amazed in her performances, praising her for her “stunning, sensational vocal talent, paired with supreme musicianship and an immense dramatic stage presence.” She literally captures the audience with her warm aura.
Miss Jeon has sung with numerous opera companies world-wide; including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, Ireland, Slovakia, Czecho, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, China ... , U.S. and her native South Korea. She has been invited to perform in such historic opera theaters as Deutsche Oper Berlin, Berlin Staatsoper, Dresden Semperoper, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Hannover Staatstheater, Munich Gasteig, Hamburg Laeiszhalle, Kieler Schloss, Prague Castle, Theater Bern – Switzerland, Montjuïc Castle in Barcelona, Sejong Cultural Center in Seoul and more. She has sung a diverse repertoire ranging from: Liu from Turandot, and Musetta from La Boheme, Olympia from Tales of Hoffman..
In addition to the lyric and coloratura roles in opera, her repertoire also includes lied, oratorio, and symphonic works. Concert engagements have included Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in the Munich Philharmonie, German NDR Broadcast - New Year Concert, Fantasy #9 Beethoven in Carl-Orff Saal Gasteig, Summer Music Festival les Musicalides in Lyon France with Edguard Brunner, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Matteus Passion, Jauch zet Gott with Bach collegium, Sommernachtstraum in OdeonsPlatz with Conductor James Levine.
She received her education at Korea’s Yonsei University in Seoul, the Hochschule for Musik and Theater in Munich, Germany, and the Mozarteum International Summer Academy in Salzburg. She studied with Daphne Evangelatos, Helena Lazarska, Adalbert Kraus, Charla Giuseppe Di Stefano, Franco Corelli, Helmut Deutsch, Elena Obraztsova and Dame Joan Sutherland.
