Biography
Her style could be loosely described perhaps as Americana but certainly not limited to that. She is also an avid retro enthusiast and loves songs and pop/rock artists of that era and performs them seamlessly.
Merilyn is a continuously evolving and inspiring artist. Intelligent lyrics, killer hooks and memorable melodies only begin to describe her writing and musical talents.
Sydney born and bred, it’s hard to figure where Merilyn’s influence to be a singer/songwriter came from. Although both her Mum and Grandmother played piano, it was mostly for a hobby. It was Merilyn’s Dad who
... bought her first guitar when she was just 12 and began taking her to music lessons. From there her love for music developed. She wrote her first song at the age of 14.
These days her influences are varied like her repertoire and include; Fleetwood Mac, Blondie, George Ezra, Bruno Mars, Amy Shark, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Bernard Fanning, Alanis Morrissette and many more.
Merilyn has appeared at many festivals including Gympie Muster, Whittlesea Vic, Wagga Wagga, Tamworth, Canberra Country Blues & Roots, Kempsey Trucking festival, Wauchope, the Heritage Miners festival Port Kembla, Blue Water festival Port Stephens, Tooleybuc, Barham Stampede and the Bay of Islands Country Rock festival in New Zealand.
She’s been instructed by some of the best in the industry including songwriting workshops with Kasey Chambers, Bill Chambers, Garth Porter, Graeme Connors, Beccy Cole and more. Merilyn has been support act to entertainment greats like Lucky Grilles, Chad Morgan and Normie Rowe.
Merilyn has a driving passion for her music and a craving to perform. Particularly, she loves the feedback and buzz she gets from a live audience and has been performing for over 20 years either as solo, duo, with her own band or in tribute shows. She also has the need to write and create music so with more singles coming to the fore in the next 6 months expect a long awaited new album to follow soon!
