Experience

I have recently returned to the UK from the USA where I have been working as a professional dancer for the past year at Mystic Ballet Connecticut which is a Contemporary Dance Company. Our performances were a cabaret influenced mash up of drama, mystery and seductive art of dance to a variety of music including blues and rock and roll.
At Mystic we were encouraged to push ourselves out of our comfort zone and to have no limits. Our performances were not just about perfecting our dance but reaching the best version of ourselves. The production would start from choreography but didn’t st ... op at the steps but was about digging deeper into the meaning of each individual movement and figuring out how to make it feel real for the audience. We were always encouraged to research and free ourselves from preconceived ideas of what dance should look like. The most important characteristic we needed was to have an open mind and push ourselves physically and mentally. We were always working on new ways of thinking, new ways of moving and work based on communication and trust. Our aim was to move everybody and make them believe in the work.
Living in the USA for a year and being so far from my home in the UK has really helped me to mature both as a performer and an individual.
As soon as I step out onto stage I feel as though it is my home, I love performing to the audience and being able to express myself both as me and as another character is a truly amazing thing to be able to do. It is such a privilege to be able to transport audiences to a different time or place through dance.
I love all forms of dance. After performances I am always complimented on my stage presence. I am a cheerful, energetic and hard-working person. I have gained a lot of experience of interacting closely with the audience during my time in Mystic Ballet. I have learnt how to pick up choreography quickly during my time there with little rehearsal time between new shows and having to make last minute adaptions If a member of the cast was unwell or injured.
I was an associate dancer at Elmhurst Ballet School, Ballet Cymru and National Dance Wales. I trained full time for 3 years at Kings International Ballet Academy and am a qualified Dance Teacher with experience of some part time teaching for the associates at Kings, also at a school in Leicestershire and at my local dance school in Wales.
