Meet the Act
Chris (Bono)
Chris has been a huge fan of U2 ever since buying his first U2 album ‘The Joshua Tree’ back in the early 90’s and listening to Bono’s ripping vocals on songs like ‘With Or Without You’.
He has been involved in the music industry since his late teens, either behind the scenes with p.a. and lighting, or being on the road with his own band. In due course he opened up his own rehearsal and recording studios in Coventry, but still never came into his element until following his heart and doing what he enjoyed the most - being part of a U2 tribute.
In 2013 he joined up w
... ith the long-time running ‘Rattle and Hum,’ a U2 tribute band based in the North, and the band took off from the word go, being quoted by some as ‘the best U2 tribute they’d ever seen!’
But over the years that passed, the long distances between band members, together with differing opinions on the band’s direction, led Chris to take the very difficult decision to go his own way and seek a fresh start.
Finally, still ever in pursuit of his dream of setting up the most authentic sounding and mind grabbing show possible, he decided to take the reins and create a band from scratch, the band that was to become ‘The U2 Experience’…. and, with the help of his new fellow band mates, deliver the most mind-blowing show for their audiences near and far.
John (The Edge)
2 became one of John’s favourite bands from an impressionable age while he was learning to play the guitar and, inevitably, they became one of his biggest influences.
Playing in original and covers bands over the past fifteen years, including more recently a Jimi Hendrix tribute band, John has now returned to his roots.
After having a chat with Chris (Bono) one day and discovering that he was looking for musicians to form a U2 tribute band, John didn’t waste any time in expressing interest in being the lucky soul to play through the brilliantly fine-tuned and meticulously accurate guitar rig that Chris had painstakingly assembled. “It’s even better that the real thing,” John was once quoted as saying!
Being a part of The U2 Experience puts John firmly in his element, with his love for rocking out with a massive sound and putting on a spectacular show for the audience.
Clive (Adam Clayton)
Clive took up the bass in his early teens – he wanted to be in his older brother’s band but they already had two guitarists! Over the years he has performed in bands of many genres, playing both covers and original material, much of which he has written. His musical highs include opening for veteran rockers The Heavy Metal Kids, and fellow Brummies UB40.
Clive’s introduction to U2 came way back in May 1980 when he saw them perform at a club in his home city of Birmingham, where they were actually opening for his mate’s band. Impossible to believe now, but due to a bus strike that day U2 played to barely a dozen people, and at one point Bono joined Clive and the rest of the small audience to sing to the rest of the band back on the stage. Blown away by what he saw and heard, Clive left the venue that night with a sneaking suspicion that these four lads might go places …….
Fast forward to 2021, and when the role of Adam Clayton in The U2 Experience cropped up, Clive stepped forward and was immediately impressed by the whole set-up, the attention to detail, the accuracy of the sound, and the standard of musicianship. Clive’s passion is for playing live, and he now looks forward to “being Adam” in front of audiences across the UK and beyond.
Mark (Larry Mullen Jnr.)
Multi-instrumentalist Mark began playing drums at the age of eight, his first “kit” an assortment of pots and pans, and during school years played guitar and bass in a series of bands. After many years of playing live and recording he made the switch back to drums and in due course answered Chris’s call to sit in the vacant drum-seat of Larry Mullen Jnr. in The U2 Experience.
Mark first became aware of U2 in 1983 when his older sister began playing the ‘War’ album loudly in the adjacent bedroom, and by the time “The Joshua Tree” was released they had cemented their position as his #1 band. His favourite U2 memory was seeing them play at Wembley Stadium on the Zoo TV tour in 1993.
With the ability to accurately recreate Larry’s intricate and challenging drum patterns, Mark plays with a potent blend of precision and power, and is the rhythmic backbone that gives the rest of the band the platform upon which to deliver the many other layers that define the U2 sound.
Mark is looking forward to taking the show on the road as The U2 Experience perform across the UK.
