Alex Sirota is a lifelong trumpeter whose musical journey began at the age of 10. His early career saw him honing his craft in a variety of settings, from intimate small ensembles to massive 225-person high school and university marching bands. This diverse background has given him a broad and versatile skill set, allowing him to adapt his performance to any style or size of event.
Since 2003, Alex has been a consistent and in-demand presence in the live music scene, performing weekly with a variety of notable Toronto-based groups, including Resa's Pieces, Tuesday Horns, and the renowned Metr ... o Big Band. His extensive experience includes playing for audiences numbering in the hundreds and thousands, bringing a powerful and captivating sound to every performance.
A true creative spirit, Alex is always exploring new musical horizons. He is currently embarking on an exciting new venture, creating his own unique fusion band, Pickled Beats, which blends the passionate rhythms of Jewish and flamenco music.

I’m Alex Sirota—product manager by day, trumpet slinger by night, and born troublemaker since Odessa, Ukraine, 1971. My love affair with music and technology started young—with an Apple //e in one hand and a trumpet in the other. Some kids played soccer; I debugged in BASIC and played scales until the neighbours begged me to switch to piano.
I marched, I blew, I bugled—from high school bands to drum corps to the glorious ensembles of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. (Go Blue!) Somewhere between coding late-night websites and perfecting high C’s, I realized: whether it’s ... a startup pitch or a salsa groove, it’s all about getting people to feel something.
At Apple, I helped build the early Apple.com. Then came stints at EveryWare Development and FloNetwork—tech adventures full of acronyms, whiteboards, and “just one more feature.” These days I modernize nonprofits, wrangle data, and build grant platforms for the government—yes, I’m that guy who makes bureaucracy beautiful.
And then there’s Pickled Beats—my latest passion project. It’s part Sephardic soul, part global groove, and 100% heart. We mix tradition with rhythm, led by legends like Jeremy Hutton and Cantor Aaron Bensoussan, all in a rotating musical circus à la Postmodern Jukebox. Think ancient melodies with a side of salsa, and maybe a klezmer twist if the mood strikes.
To me, the trumpet is a bridge: between sacred and street, past and present, Odessa and Toronto. Pickled Beats is the sound of diaspora coming home—spicy, soulful, and sometimes just a little ridiculous.
