I am a professional bass guitarist with 40 years of experience performing live, in studio environments and with a wide range of artists and bands.
My approach to playing is simple: serve the music, support the band and deliver a solid, consistent performance. As a bassist, I understand that the foundation of a great live show starts with the rhythm section. Working closely with the drummer, my focus is on creating a strong groove, solid timing and a musical foundation that allows the entire band to perform at its best.
I have extensive experience performing a wide variety of musical styles, ... including rock, pop, blues, funk, country, gospel, dance, ballads and show music. I am comfortable adapting to different artists, bands, arrangements and performance environments.
I have founded and performed with several successful live bands and have also had the opportunity to perform alongside established South African artists, as well as in studio recording environments and major live events.
I take every performance seriously. I arrive prepared, work professionally with other musicians and understand the importance of reliability, teamwork and consistency on stage.
Ultimately, the show is not about one individual — it is about the music, the band and the audience. My goal is to make the band sound tight, professional and energetic while helping create an experience that the audience will remember.

Biography

Gert “Stoney” Steenberg is a professional bass guitarist with 40 years of experience in live performance, studio recording and professional show bands.
His musical journey includes founding and performing with bands such as Murge, Turbulence and Sensorium, with extensive experience covering rock, pop, blues, funk, country, gospel, dance, ballads and show music.
Over the years, Stoney has performed alongside a wide range of established South African artists, including Heinz Winckler, Leah, Demi Lee Moore, Kurt Darren, Jake De Priester, Mel Botes, Joshua na die Reën, Joe Black, Willie Jou ... bert, Gerhard Steyn, Joe Niemand, Garnet Deacon and others.
His experience also includes studio recording, Gospel album recordings, Barnyard theatre productions and major live events, as well as recording bass tracks for other artists.
As a bassist, Stoney places strong emphasis on timing, groove, musicality and supporting the overall performance. He is comfortable learning and memorising arrangements, adapting to different musical styles and working closely with other musicians to create a tight and professional live sound.
