Biography
John started learning piano at seventeen, diving into classical pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and other great composers. While that gave him a solid foundation, he also taught himself songwriting and music production—creating everything from funky disco-pop tracks to smooth, emotional ballads. Along the way, he explored other genres too, including jazz, blues, gospel, and country piano.
He's also a published author. His book The Complete Classical Piano Course was featured in PIANIST magazine’s list of the Top 20 Best Self-Learning Piano Books. His second book, Playing By Ear – A
... Songwriter’s Way, offers a step-by-step guide to chord harmony and voicings, helping musicians unlock their creativity.
These days, John continues to sharpen his skills during the day and focuses on performing in the evenings and on weekends—always looking for new ways to grow as a musician and connect with his audience.

Meet the Act
As well as being an accomplished pianist, John is also a professional songwriter and music producer, creating under the name SmashHarry. When he's not making music, you'll find him nose-deep in a thriller—he's read every Jack Reacher book, with A Wanted Man topping his list of favorites.
Wherever he goes, John finds a way to make music happen. Take that unforgettable trip to Mexico, for example—his ex-girlfriend’s sister was getting married, and the bride asked him to join the salsa band for a performance. Never one to do things halfway, John jumped in with some Rock 'n' Roll piano fl
... air, rallying the whole band into a high-energy jam session. The best part? None of them spoke English—but that didn’t matter. As John always says: music is a universal language. 🎶

Online Piano Lessons
Hi,
I am very experienced in teaching beginners to advanced playing standard. I can teach almost all genres including country, latin and gospel piano but most students tend to learn jazz, classical, blues, pop (I'm also a songwriter), chords, theory, improvisation and composition with me.
Exams: ABRSM: Grade 8 Classical / Diploma standard performances, Jazz grade 5 (although I go a lot more advanced than this level) and Grade 1-8 theory ABRSM standard.
I am a published author with my online/offline course The Complete Classical Piano Course (voted as the Top 20 Best piano courses - by PIANIST magazine) and also my Playing by Ear - A Songwriter's Way book which has been featured in PIANIST magazine 6 times as well as numerous compositions.
If you're struggling with anything piano related, technique, sight-reading, musicality, theory or even just how to do a page turn, I can help you the fastest and quickest way.
I've developed tips and tricks and various learning strategies over 30+ years, on students from 6 -75 years old. As long as you follow my method for learning piano and lose your bad habits I will get you playing better no matter where you're at at the moment.
Rates: £50 / hour. Can have a lesson per week, 2 per month or one per month.
