Description
I perform a contemporary style of magic that is suitable for any type and size of event. From an intimate close up audience right through to a large theatre auditorium, my entertainment can be tailored to whatever is required. This means that regardless of whether you are planning a wedding, dinner, cabaret or simple family get together, every single one of your guests will be entertained in a manner that they will never forget.
Biography
I have been performing magic for over 3 decades now – 26 years professionally and 11 as a full-time magician/entertainer. I perform close up magic for adults, magic & circus shows for families and speak on personal development for corporates and in the education sector.
I always remain committed to finding new ways of sharing these interests with the people of Yorkshire, the UK and beyond, and as a result love working on a variety of projects. My Magic Masterclass and joint venture Circus Education, for instance, work towards teaching and entertaining at the very same time.

Physical Characteristics
Meet the Act
The journey started upon first learning to juggle at the ripe old age of ten: my mother would leave me in Mushy Pea, a juggling shop that was formerly based in Manchester.
Being taught all kinds of tricks in there really furthered my interest in entertainment, and I quickly became more and more intrigued by the magic department that they had at the back of the store. This fascination was only enhanced when my brother bought me a deck of Marvin’s Magic Cards one Christmas.
It’s safe to say that I was absolutely hooked from that point onwards.
As a street magician it was immediately
... apparent that I wouldn’t get paid unless I learnt how to build and keep a crowd entertained, with my baptism of fire into the world of entertaining coming when I was 14.
Just one year later I had progressed into performing all over the country as a magical illusion act. I boasted quite the impressive entourage while doing so, and recruited my father as a roady, girlfriend as an assistant and extremely talented grandfather as set builder.
As a team we continued doing this until I went to university to study Performance Design and Production at Bretton Hall in West Yorkshire. Despite writing my dissertation on the use of magic and variety in theatre, I changed tack afterwards and decided to train to be a physics teacher.
Due to the draw of performance and entertaining still having its hold on me, however, I continued to perform again at weddings, corporate dinners, kids parties and other events. This led to me forming the ‘Matthew J Magic & Variety Arts’ company and ‘The Magic Matt Show’ back in 2006.
Skip forward another six years and I was leaving to travel the world for 12 months. On my return I became a full-time entertainer, which brings me to where I am right now.
Travelling to see and experience different places and making people smile are my two passions, and I consider myself very fortunate to do both as part of my career.
