Biography

Rene Mabotha (aka Rene Afro Rock) has over 22 years international professional experience performing in countries within Europe, Asia, South America, Middle-East, Africa and notably the United States. She continuously performs as a Solo Act and as a Lead Singer in various Live Bands, notably Ice ‘n Fire Band, for Major Corporate Events, Big Productions, Weddings, and Private Parties with guest lists comprising of A-listers such as President Cyril Ramaphosa, His Excellency the former President of Botswana (Lieutenant General Ian Khama), Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi (Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan) ... , former Ambassador Douglas Gibson, President of SAFA – Dr Danny Jordaan, Director General of Sports, Arts & Culture - Vusumusi Mkhize just to name a few. Her repertoire spans a diverse range of genres and languages, including Afrikaans, Arabic, African (Afrobeats, Amapiano), Rock, Pop, Jazz, RNB, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, and Mandarin (Chinese) .
Some of her career highlights include performances for international ambassadors in Thailand; dancer at the launch of Cell C mobile telecoms in 2001; performed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup; sung The South African National Anthem numerous times live on DSTV SuperSport for Boxing tournaments broadcasted in over 80 countries; 3-year stint contract performing in 4 and 5 star Hotels in The Balearic Islands of Spain; The Rocky Horror Musical Show, Women’s Day event at the former Miss South Africa Basetsana Kumalo’s Travel With Flair event; International Production Shows on Costa Cruises, Sijla Line and MSC cruise ships sailing around the world.
Rene was also a guest artist at the Harley Davidson’s Africa Bike Week 2015 in Margate were she rocked almost 80,000 strong audience dominated by bikers; she performed at the Darren Scott’s Wings of Change Charity event; Narrator at the official opening of General Electric R500 million Africa Innovation Centre; The St. Regis 2017 & 2018 New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner performance in Abu Dhabi; performed with South African legends; Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, Claire Johnston (Mango Groove), Kurt Darren, Just Jinger and Zolani Mahola (Freshlyground) accompanied by an Orchestra at Wimpy’s 50th Birthday; performed at the American International School of Mozambique Graduations Ceremony, Rocked the Pick ‘n Pay 50th Birthday massive event at the Sun City Resort where she performed with Mafikizolo, ProVerb, Refentse, Kurt Darren, Dr Victor and collaborated with The Parlotones on their hit song Life Design!
Her artistic conquest further placed her on the President of Botswana’s invitation list at the Lady Khama Charitable Trust Gala Dinner to perform and share the stage with Vicky Sampson and The Soweto String Quartet. She was invited as a Guest Celebrity at the Abraham Kriel Stars for Charity sharing the stage with Jennifer Jones, Heinz Winckler, Laurika Raunch and many others. Rene was cast as a Lead Singer for the exclusive 3-week Porsche Cayenne 2018 Launch Event attended by Dealers and VIPs from Germany, USA, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Korea, Italy, Spain and the rest of the world.
She fulfilled a dual role of a Singer and a Master of Ceremonies at the 2018 Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) CEO Golf Awards. Rene further elevated her triple-threat prowess as a singer, dancer and master of ceremonies (MC) at the Puig Perfume Launch Roadshows that took place in 3 major cities. She had an astounding performance at the exclusive Angels Initiative Roadshow 2018 conference held in Bloemfontein, East London, Klerksdorp, Johannesburg and Cape Town for Doctors, Nurses and Neurologists who encounter and work with stroke patients. Rene was a guest artist at the South African Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega’s 60th private Birthday ceremony.
Rene’s highlights for 2018 were her super performance at the South African President’s Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation Event in Sandton, Cyril Ramaphosa Adopt A School Foundation Event head at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, the Trek4Mandeaa’s 100th years Centenary for Nelson Mandela in Sandton, Impressing the French delegates opening with “The Lion King theme song” at the Citroen Event held at Four Seasons Hotel, Hosting and Performing at the Madame Zingara Corporate Event held at Melrose Arch.
She gave memorable performances at the RE/MAX of Southern Africa Annual Awards 2019 held in 4 major cities. Rene was invited as a Special Guest Artist, at the Imbumba fundariser dinner, where she performed for the former South Africa’s Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela, guests singer at the spectacular Mr World South Africa 2019 pageant, Sung The National Anthem at the prestigious opening conference of the Actuarial Society Of South Africa. Some of her most outstanding performances includes: Women In Mining South Africa (WIMSA), Cazabella Jewellery Awards, AfriSam Annual Conference 2020, RE/MAX 25th Anniversary 2020, one woman show performance at the Two Rivers Platinum Awards Event in 2020 & 2021, Co-Presenter Anglo American Kumba & Mukuru Virtual Events 2021, MC & Singer for FEM’s Virtual Event 2021, Glenmark Event, AMMSA Golf Event in Dullstroom, Sasol’s partnership renewal with SAFA for Banyana Banyana Event, MC & Singer at ALSTOM Event, USAID Southern Africa Event 2022, MC & Singer for Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) & The South African Institute Of Civil Engineering (SAICE) 2022 National Awards - sponsored by SANRAL, Sung at Mercedes- Benz private event bidding farewell to Roy McAalister, STEERS Roadshow Awards, SHOWMAX event, Hitachi Construction Machinery Africa, Sanulac Africa & RE/MAX Southern Africa Annual Awards 2023 at Sun City Superbowl, MEDTRONIC Spectacular Gala Dinner where she shared stage with Master KG – Jerusalema hitmaker just to name a few.
More highlights includes being nominated for the Woman of Stature Award in the Arts & Culture category and winning the Public Choice Award. Rene gave stellar performances at the First Group Management event in KZN, Liberty Group SA Conference that took place in Zimbali over 3 days, Victron Energy Southern Africa, The American International School of Mozambique Graduations, serenaded prestigious guests at the Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) Conference, sang at The Road Freight Association outdoor truck event and not forgetting the spectacular James Bond-themed 007 Pediatrician Management Group Gala evening in KZN.
Rene was featured as a Guest Artist for Lloyd Cele and his band at Citrus Research International held at the Champagne Sports Resort in Drakensberg. She was later booked for two (2) back-to-back performances at Nashua 50th Year+, Franchise Awards Dinner and the 80s & 90s Throwback themed events.
She recently performed at the Irene Homes’ Annual FETE Charity, and at the Aspen Pharmacare where she brought Pantsula dancers to further electrify her stage performances!
