Tolstoy&Leo is a duo currently living and performing in Texas. However, while having their roots in the United States, their ties also come from Buenos Aires, Argentina. During the summer of 2014 Hayley and Leo met by chance in Oaxaca, Mexico while traveling. Their desire to play music together brought them to create an acoustic duo in Austin, Texas under the name of Tolstoy&Leo, coming from their affinity for Russian literature. The technical contributions of Leo’s Latin American rhythm and jazz background paired with Hayley’s understanding of vocal tones and versatility in improvisation ... makes for a duo that has great versatility in rhythm and styles; the strength of this duo is their ability to interpret many different songs without losing their essence. In their repertoire, there is music from all types of eras, and from different parts of the word; from Jazz of the 50s to modern Soul, from Motown to Disco of the 70s and 80s. Additionally, this duo plays and interprets Spanish music including cuban rhythms, Latin American Rock, and a range of Brazilian music such as Bossa Nova and Samba principally known worldwide by the contributiong of Tom Jobim and interpreted in their original Portuguese lyric.
During the year of 2014 the duo was created in Austin, Texas and began performing in Buenos Aires Café, an Argentine restaurant , where they were contracted to play ten performances in three months with their circuit of Jazz, Bossa Nova, and Tango music. Later, with a more extensive and diversified repertoire, Tolstoy&Leo started booking weddings, lounges, private events, and hotels, in all cases having had applied and chosen by solicitations, advertisements, and open castings. Each event was highlighted by the the opportunity of additional contacts for future events and contracts. The presence of the duo, or the way in which the audience member can appreciate their live performances transmits in the versatility of styles and interpretations in their own sound while maintaining the essence of the covers for the public to enjoy. Also the shows leave room for moments of energetic improvisation that fills the tracks with different tones.
