Zukira is a unique husband wife duo playing a striking combination of cello and guitar. Having played together since 2016 after meeting on the Ugandan music scene, they have developed a captivating upbeat and mellow sound with a classical flair.
Performing music from a variety of genres including Classical, Pop, Rock, R&B, Soul, Afrobeats and Jazz, Zukira the Duo are impressively versatile, performing at a wide range of occasions and events and for a variety of clients including Netflix’s Love is Blind, Bridgerton/Alicia Keys, and Zawe Ashton.
Their eclectic style draws on the infl ... uences of their distinctive mixed heritage. Abbie is half English, half Ugandan, and was raised in the UK, studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Gavie is half Ugandan, half Ukrainian and was raised and trained in Uganda. His playing is strongly influenced by African contemporary/jazz music.
Together, they’re emerging on London’s music scene as a new and exciting alternative, reimagining well-loved melodies with each performance. We are Zukira – a unique husband and wife duo playing a striking blend of cello and guitar. Having played together since meeting on the Ugandan scene, we’ve drawn on our diverse heritage to create an upbeat and mellow sound with a classical flair.
Our joint African heritage has influenced our singing and playing style hugely, and we have drawn inspiration from genres like Soul, R&B, Afro and Jazz.
Abbie, of mixed Ugandan and British descent, studied cello at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Gavie, of Ugandan and Ukrainian descent trained at the Kampala Music School in U ... ganda.
