I perform with fire poi, dragon staff, and torches. My performances go for 4 sets of fire, 5 min each or 15-20 switching toys. I have been a poi dancer for 14 years and dragon staff for 2. I started performing with fire about a year ago while living in Costa Rica.

Description

I bring the sacred element for fire to you! This element that is symbolical of transformation, transmutation, light and power. I perform with fire using both poi and dragon staff, I also have palm torches that I dance with freely. I come prepared with music, unless other is provided. I have fire safety knowledge and also come prepared with a fire blanket and extinguisher.

Biography

Dance has been a part of Alicia's life for as long as she can remember. From dance recitals at 5 to pole dancing at clubs in her 20's. So it was only natural for her to pick up poi at the age of 18 when she got into the rave scene. She saw people spinning poi and was instantly inspired, and started to learn it on her own for herself. Her first poi were made by her with glow sticks taped together and shoelaces, and sock poi made from socks and bean bags. She watched video after video at home learning tricks and then would perform those weekly at the raves she attended. As she started to grow, s ... o did her practice and upgraded her toys to LED. She had always wanted to spin fire, and finally got the opportunity last summer while she was living in Costa Rica. She linked up with a local community fire spinning group, Firespace PV, and performed with them weekly for locals and tourists alike. This is where she also picked up the dragon staff and fell in love with that as well. She is now back in the US performing for friends and family in her community and she is excited to expand and bring her skills to other events.

Experience

I have been a poi dancer for 14 years, with LED and contact poi. I learned the dragon staff last year and have been practicing with that ever since. I started spinning fire a year ago, while living in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, and would perform with my group FireSpace PV weekly, at least once and most times twice a week. Since then I've been performing with fire for friends and family and am excited to bring this element and art to others!
