The Colombia Negra Musical Group boasts a stellar roster of artists and musicians with distinguished musical lineage and academic training in the arts and other disciplines. The music of this professional, international orchestra falls within the genres of fusion, blending Spanish-speaking Caribbean music, salsa, chirimía from the Chocó department, African-American jazz, currulao, and son. In the pursuit of a universal sound, some of our musical pieces feature arrangements and production by Maestro Alexis Lozano, founder of Grupo Niche and mentor-director of the Guayacán Orchestra.

In addition to the live musical performance, we offer the following added benefits: a screening of the feature film "Del Palenque de San Basilio," a hands-on workshop on African-influenced dance and music for children, teenagers, and adults, and an exhibition of Colombian graphic arts.
This group consists of 14 professional artists who play the following instruments: piano, saxophone, guitar, bass, congas, clarinet, euphonium, bass drum, and various percussion instruments, plus four vocalists and dancers.

Biography

This group was created in 1978 by the Dancer, Choreographer, Singer and Folklorist Esperanza Bioho Perea, its current director and since then has been dedicated to the research, projection, and promotion of the Afro-Colombian artistic heritage, as well as the updating and creation of its own songs and rhythms.
On several occasions, the Colombia Negra Musical Group and its Director Esperanza Bioho Perea have represented the country at various national and international events, in countries such as: South Africa, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy, Swi ... tzerland, the United States, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, among others, always upholding the name of Colombia.
The work of the Colombia Negra Musical Group has generated positive comments and favorable reviews both in the country and abroad.
