Biography

Luke Norman is a violinist, arranger, and composer from Menlo Park, California. Luke began playing the violin at four years old under the tutelage of Jacquelyn Corina, studying classical music for 14 years. Luke continued his studies at the Berklee College of Music on scholarship, where he majored in Professional Music with concentrations in Violin Performance and Jazz Composition. During his time at Berklee College of Music, Luke participated in several ensembles and bands, including the Miley Cyrus Advanced Artist Showcase Ensemble, where he arranged the string parts and played first violin. ... Through his exposure to the music of Thundercat, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Herbie Hancock, and others, Luke became enamored with the tradition of jazz and fusion and the incorporation of contemporary rhythms and grooves into its language. Through his compositions, performance, and teaching, Luke strives to use the jazz medium to honor the pioneers of the tradition and express his personal artistry.

With short notice, I asked Luke to come to my Pacific Heights home in SF. He arrived promptly, he was courteous and more importantly his performance on the violin was truly outstanding! His repertoire was impressive and was not limited to classic and contemporary music and each and every one of my guests complimented his skills. The Berklee School of Music in Boston, one of the most prestigious institutions for musical endeavors, will be proud to have him as a graduate. I am certainly a fan and I would not hesitate to hire him again and look forward to him preforming at my home again!

Luke played a wonderful set of jazz standards and pop covers alongside a guitarist for my college grad party last May. He was easy to work with, well prepared, and an incredible player. My guests really enjoyed his performance and they made it a party to remember.
