Frequently Asked Questions – Hiring a Pianist or Keyboardist in Edinburgh

What types of events can I hire a pianist or keyboardist for in Edinburgh?
Pianists and keyboardists in Edinburgh perform at private parties, corporate events, receptions, hospitality functions, gala dinners, and social celebrations. They can provide subtle background music or more engaging performances, depending on your event style.

Which Edinburgh venues are popular for live piano or keyboard music?
Live pianists regularly perform at venues across Edinburgh, including historic landmarks, luxury hotels, modern event spaces, and private venues throughout the Old Town, New Town, Leith, and nearby areas such as Musselburgh and South Queensferry.

Does the pianist or keyboardist provide their own instrument?
If your Edinburgh venue has a well-maintained acoustic piano, many pianists are happy to use it. Otherwise, most keyboardists provide their own professional digital piano, stand, and cabling. Some performers can also offer a piano shell for a grand piano look.

What space and power are required?
A digital keyboard setup typically requires around 2m x 2m of space and access to a standard power socket. Acoustic pianos require more space and should be positioned away from damp, direct heat, or heavy foot traffic.

How much does it cost to hire a pianist or keyboardist in Edinburgh?
Prices in Edinburgh usually range from £200 to £500 for a 1–2 hour performance, depending on experience and requirements. Corporate or premium bookings may range from £500 to £1,000+ for longer or bespoke performances.

When should I book a pianist or keyboardist in Edinburgh?
For popular dates such as summer weekends, festival season, and December events, it’s recommended to book 6–12 months in advance. Some performers may still be available at shorter notice outside peak periods.

How long does a pianist usually perform?
Most bookings include 1–2 hours of live music, often split into multiple sets with short breaks. Extended or customised performance times are usually available on request.

Can a pianist perform at different times during my event?
Yes. Many Edinburgh pianists offer flexible packages and can perform during arrivals, drinks receptions, meals, or later in the evening depending on your schedule.

Can pianists perform outdoors in Edinburgh?
Outdoor performances are possible if weather conditions are suitable and there is adequate shelter and power access. Acoustic pianos are not recommended outdoors unless fully protected.

Can I request specific songs or pieces?
Most pianists and keyboardists are happy to learn specific song requests with advance notice, including meaningful or favourite pieces.

What styles of music do Edinburgh pianists and keyboardists perform?
Styles include classical piano, jazz, pop, film and TV themes, lounge music, instrumental covers, and modern chart songs. Music is always adapted to suit the atmosphere and audience.

Do pianists supply their own sound equipment?
Keyboardists usually provide their own digital piano and compact PA system, all fully PAT-tested and suitable for Edinburgh venues. If using a venue piano, it’s recommended to confirm it has been recently tuned.

Do pianists need time for setup or soundcheck?
Yes. Digital piano setups typically take between 30–60 minutes. Acoustic piano checks are usually quicker but still require a short warm-up period.

Can a pianist perform with other musicians or singers?
Yes. Many Edinburgh pianists regularly collaborate with vocalists, violinists, saxophonists, and other musicians. Ensemble options should be discussed in advance.

Are pianists and keyboardists insured?
Most professional pianists and keyboardists hold public liability insurance, which is often required by Edinburgh venues.

Can I see videos or reviews before booking?
Yes. Performer profiles include demo recordings, videos, and verified reviews so you can book with confidence.

How do I book a pianist or keyboardist in Edinburgh?
Browse profiles, listen to demos, read reviews, and send a direct enquiry to your chosen performer. Booking directly ensures clear pricing and fast communication.
