Planning your children’s birthday party can be such a fun experience no matter what age they are. If you are inviting a lot of children, you will want to put on some entertainment to keep them occupied or they will be running around your house loaded on sugar and getting up to all sorts of mischief.
There are plenty of Children’s Entertainers available that cater birthday parties – some more unusual than others so we’ve put together this little guide with a few suggestions to get you started.
Magic is one of the forms of entertainment that wows people of all ages, including children so hiring a children’s magician can really add sparkle to any birthday party. Performing a more colourful, comedy style routine a children’s magician will get all of the children involved and make a fuss of the birthday boy or girl. Once your magician gives his performance, the children won’t want him to leave and there will be plenty of giggles all round! See our guide to help you book a children’s magician.
One of our new members, Magic Monty, is a all round Children’s Entertainer and includes ventriloquism, balloon twisting, Close-Up Magic and comedy in his act. See Magic Monty’s profile here or visit his website.
Most children love balloons no matter how old they are so hiring a balloon modeller is a perfect idea to keep the majority of ages entertained, however they are more suitable for children of Primary school age. Balloon modellers will provide hours of entertainment as they sculpt animals, vehicles and even more creative shapes and children will be amazed as they see their creations coming together. Children will get to keep the sculptures too which is an added bonus.
Puppet shows are also a popular attraction for younger children and are very interactive which keeps little minds occupied. A magical choice of entertainment for children, many puppeteers will set up their stage at a central location while children sit around and watch the magic appear. Most puppet shows are interactive with the birthday boy or girl participating in the show.
A ventriloquist may seem like an unusual choice for a children’s birthday party but did you know that you can hire child friendly ventriloquists that will bring along a selection of cuddly, cute characters that children will love? Young children are more suited to this form of entertainment as they think the puppets are really coming to life.
Many ventriloquists like Megan, featured below, build up an act involving comedy and even mischievous puppets which are sure to keep children entertained.
Featured act Meghan has been a performing ventriloquist for over fifteen years and has appeared regularly at the national ventriloquist convention. She was literally born into the world of puppets and ventriloquism. See Meghan’s profile or visit her website
A less interactive form of entertainment that you can hire for a children’s birthday party is the juggler. Many jugglers combine skills to provide an all-round fun packed act wearing bright coloured costumes and juggling child friendly objects. If there are older children present, jugglers may even try to teach them how to do it themselves.
Face painting is more suited to younger children’s birthday parties and is perfect if you are providing other entertainment such as dancing or playing games. Each child will have their face painted individually while the other children carry on playing. It is important to make sure that if you hire a face painter, they can cope with the amount of children within the allocated time-frame and that if you have hired any play equipment such as a bouncy castle that face painted children will be allowed to use it due to staining. Face painting is popular with both girls and boys so expect lots of pretty butterflies, tigers and superheroes running around afterwards.
When you think of a children’s birthday party, the first form of entertainment that probably comes to mind is a clown. Clowns provide children with plenty of laughs and some even add additional services into their routine like balloon modelling and performing basic magic tricks. Comedy is always a great addition for parties and hiring a clown will make your child have a very unforgettable day. One thing to note is that some younger children may be frightened of clowns.
A new trend which is becoming more and more popular among birthday parties is to hire a costumed character, such as Elsa from the Disney movie Frozen or more extravagant characters like Spongebob Squarepants or Scooby Doo. Watch your child’s face light up as their favourite character arrives at their party before spending time playing games and dancing with them. We really can’t think of anything more magical than hiring a costumed character for your child’s big day.
We hope that this guide has given you some ideas for your upcoming celebrations. Some entertainers are booked far in advance so it’s always best to get your enquiries in sooner rather than later. No matter what you decide to put on for your child, they will be sure to have a magical day and one that they will cherish forever!
