Ways to Keep your Wedding to a Small Budget

weddings on a budget

Wedding planning can be stressful, especially when having the money conversation.  If you are planning your wedding on a small budget, don’t worry – there are many ways to reduce the bills and still have a magical and memorable day.  We know of a number of ways this can be achieved, so keep reading for our top tips on sticking to a small wedding budget!

What matters most for your big day?

One of the first things you may need to do as a couple is to decide which few things you want to splurge on.  We highly recommend spending a decent amount on your wedding photographer since they will provide you with imagery to last a lifetime.  Do you want that designer gown?  What about your dream venue?  You may not be able to have everything on your wish list, but usually it is a good idea to have one or two of your “wants” and then budget on the rest of your wedding!

Plan your wedding day during an off-peak season!

A fantastic way to keep costs down when planning your wedding is to book your wedding day during an off-peak season.  Autumn and Winter months are less popular with Brides, and this results in many venues and suppliers heavily reducing their costs.  You might be able to pick up your dream venue for a fraction of the cost if you choose to marry in an off-peak season.

Off-peak season, what about an off-peak weekday?

Not only will wedding suppliers heavily reduce costs during the off-peak season, you might also get discounts if you choose to marry on a weekday.  Saturday’s and Sunday’s are the most popular days of the week to get married and many suppliers will reduce their costs if you get married on a Monday or another weekday – it is better for them to reduce their costs and still get a booking than not get a booking at all!

Use free websites, such as our Entertainers Worldwide Weddings to source suppliers

Our website is a dedicated entertainment directory which puts you in touch with wedding entertainers.  Our service is completely free and there are plenty of other sites out there to source other wedding supplies.  Browse through our categories on our website to find the right entertainment for your wedding, and many of our acts also provide average quotations to see if they are suitable for your big day!  Get in touch with them for free and save yourself time and money when booking your entertainment!

Go abroad and see the savings mount up!

There are many things to take into consideration if you are planning to marry abroad, such as getting all of your family there to celebrate with you, but more and more couples are choosing to marry in locations such as Cyprus, or even further in the Caribbean.  Choosing to marry abroad usually lowers the price of your wedding and you get a holiday included in the price too!  A lot of couples like the idea of marrying abroad and hosting a blessing or party when they get back to their country of residence.

Get out the paintbrushes and do-it-yourself!

A creative way to stick to your wedding budget it to do things yourselves.  If you have an auntie who makes amazing cakes, enlist her help for your wedding cake!  Designing your own table centrepieces, wedding invitations and much more will really help to reduce those bills.

Beg, borrow and steal (well perhaps not steal!)

Ask around your friends and family to see if they will lay a helping hand to keep things reasonable.  Save money on transport and ask a family member with a luxurious car to drive you to the church in time.  Borrow previously married friends’ things, such as dress hoops and accessories.  You will be amazed at what supplies you can get together when you simply ask your nearest and dearest!

Keep costs down by upcycling and buying second-hand!

If you want to really keep costs down, why not look at buying certain wedding items second hand.  So many people sell off their wedding décor and fabric flowers on auction websites online, and you can even buy a preloved wedding dress!  Pretty much anything you can think of when it comes to weddings can be purchased second-hand which can save a huge amount of money!
