Winter Wedding Inspiration: Themes, Decor, Music, Magic & More

winter, wedding, ideas, inspiration, decor, music

There’s something very special about a winter wedding – that extra touch of magic, the joy of Christmas songs and music, the glow & sparkle of lights and candles, the scent of Christmas trees and pine cones. It’s a gift to plan a wedding at this time of year, with so many creative ideas that can make your day even more unforgettable.

Here are just some of our all-time favourite ideas to make the very best of a Romantic Yuletide Wedding….

Not Just a White Winter

Use those Winter & Christmas themes to thread throughout your planning.

There are so many thematic elements you can go for with a winter wedding, from the colour pallet – silver, gold, green and deep red – to shapes and patterns like stars, snowflakes, bells or reindeer. You can choose just one or two of these to bring together everything from your invitations to your decorations, dress colours and entertainment.

Decks the halls with…Mistletoe, Holly & Pine Cones

What better way to make the most of your winter wedding theme than to bring in the natural, traditional foliage & berries that bring colour & and scent to the room. Mistletoe for romance, Holly for the bright berries, sprays of pine or fir and pine cones that can be sprayed gold, silver or just enhanced with a touch of glitter.

Fur (fake of course…)

Fur wraps or capes for the bride and bridesmaids look fantastic in the photos, and fur can also be used to drape chairs or even as part of the decorations.

Christmas Music to lift every heart

There are so many ways that music can make your day sparkle with that yuletide magic. You could begin by hiring some of the more traditional types of musicians and groups such as:-

  • Hire a violinist, string quartet or pianist or harpist to play a classic Christmas piece for the bridal entrance, such as Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’, Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy’ or ‘Silent Night’
  • The joy of carols is that everyone knows them and associated them with that special Christmas feeling, and they will bring a warm glow to the room. So why not book an A Cappella group or an Opera Singer to sing classic Christmas carols at your drinks reception.
  • Ask your Wedding Band or singer to include lots of those well-known Christmas classics, from Bing Crosby’s White Christmas and Santa baby by Eartha Kit, to Mariah Carey All I Want for Christmas Is You.

You can also find a wide selection of popular entertainers and services for your wedding here along with a helpful price list to help you budget here.

Christmas Decorations Everywhere

Obviously, you can use some of those gorgeous stars, bells and snowflakes as part of your décor, but have you also thought of using them as wedding favors? Pop a pretty decoration and a candy cane in a small bag to create the perfect winter wedding gifts. Or you could go for ginger bread men & women, ready to hang from a tree…and have ginger bread houses on your wedding tables.

 Light up the winter darkness

Lights of every sort can create the most wonderful glow at any wedding venue. Fairy lights, hanging lanterns, classic pillar candles wreathed in holly…or how about lining a pathway with flaming torches or tea lights in glass jars. If you choose to add gold, silver or glitter to your theme, your lights will pick it out and make your day sparkle.

Why not hire a fire dancer for that extra wow factor or book a fireworks display to light up the skies with white, gold and silver stars.

Themes to Dream of…

One of the best things about a winter wedding is that it gives you so many wonderful and easy themes that work so beautifully at this time of year. Here are just a few:

  • All White Wedding
  • White & Gold
  • Scandinavian
  • Snow & Ice
  • Rustic or Ski Lodge
  • And of course…Christmas!

A VIP Bearing Gifts!

Gift giving is such a big part of the winter season, so why not incorporate it into your wonderful day? You could hire a wedding magician to produce the party favours from thin air or make every child’s day with an appearance from Santa Claus himself…
